SHINE VBS & Drama Camp: SHINE is a week long Vacation Bible School for kids three years old to rising second grade (fall of ’14). Children will hear the Gospel, actively use their Bibles, and know what it means to give God glory. THe Drama Camp is for kids entering third-eighth grade (fall of ’14). Our mission is to provide a fun, creative, encouraging environment for kids to express the love and truth of God through the performing arts. This will be five days of performing arts fun. - Cre8tive Drama Day Camp – offered by the Department of Theater & Dance for ages 6 to 16. Cre8tive Drama Day Camp is a week-long day camp which meets in ASU’s I.G. Greer Studio Theatre. The camp focuses on creative drama. Children and teens are challenged to think creatively and encouraged to work collaboratively while exploring theatre and movement. Appalachian State University faculty member Gordon Hensley and his assistants lead these lively day classes for young people ages 6 – 16.

This week of song and dance features some of the greatest melodies ever performed on the Broadway stage. Salute the classic songs of the past and discover the dynamic music of Broadway today. Something for everyone!

What do you get when you combine The Wizard of Oz, the greatest movie musical of all time, with Wicked, the most popular Broadway show, and the soulful music of The Wiz.? All Things Oz, of course! Join us for If I Only Had a Brain/Heart/Courage,Ease on Down The Road, Popular, Defying Gravity, and of course one of the most memorable songs ever written Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Come help us tell the story from the Wizard’s perspective. It’s gonna be a summer you’ll never forget.
Creative and Performing Arts High School Camp (CAPA)
Dates: June 15-21 or June 22-28
Cost: $400(day camp) $750(residential)

CAPA is a model arts program for rising 9th-12th grade students. Participants will discover and explore a wide range of arts experiences including, but not limited to Acting, Costuming, Dance, Improvisation, Make-up, Music, Performance, Script Writing and Set Design and how all of these theatrical elements work together. The camp will culminate in a performance at the end of the week for family, friends, and the college community. Discovering ones creative potential and individual self in relationship to the world in which they live, work, and play is essential to the creative and performing arts experience. The faculty and staff of CAPA greatly value quality education and arts experiences for all youth. The National Standards for Arts Education underpin the camp curriculum.
YouTheatre of Flat Rock Playhouse and Green River Preserve Present:
A residential co-ed camp that integrates a nature program with a focus on performing arts. This intensive summer camp program will offer campers the opportunity to “unplug” in the picturesque mountains of Western North Carolina and work on performing arts skills with the professional staff of the YouTheatre of Flat Rock Playhouse, the State Theatre of North Carolina, and one of the top regional theatres nationwide.
